Mason Arts Festival

2009 Mason Arts Festival
The Mason Historical Society was honored to be included for the fourth year at the Mason Art Festival.
Our display included several museum pieces along with borrowed art.  Pieces from the museum were an oil painting of Jack Nicklaus Golf Course and watercolor of a Red Mill by Donna Beavers, oil paintings of Don and Mary Snider's house and the Alverta Green Museum by Jeanne Harpen, watercolors of the Alverta Green Museum and Snider Road Sunflowers by Dolores Wilt.   Al and Helen Voorhis allowed us to borrow a a painting of the Voorhis Farm house on Tylersville Road by their daughter Elaine Voorhis Luttrell.  Frances Gilbert lent  four of the wooden building replicas cut by Bill Gilbert and painted by Jeanne Harpen.  Also, she allowed us to display a large painting from the 1850's painted by Mason resident David Bennett.  The background of this painting was copied from a postcard of a scene near London, England.  The foreground included a young lady, Louisa Muncey Gray (Bill Gilberts' Great Grandmother) who came from England in 1851.  Bennett  painted the wings and backdrops for the stage at the Opera House located above the Fifth Third Bank building.
Thank you to the Mason Art's Council for allowing us to showcase Mason's history through its' art.
